1. What to see at Underwater World Langkawi

Underwater World Langkawi emphasises the importance of nature and marine life conservation through its roster of fun and educational exhibitions and activities. Langkawi’s aquarium is a must-visit for nature lovers and those fascinated by underwater life.

Tunnel Tank

This is arguably the main attraction of Underwater World Langkawi. Here, you’ll find a spectacular 15-metre-long tunnel tank showing various marine creatures, such as olive ridley sea turtles, groupers, stingrays, and more. It certainly makes for a mesmerising sight as the only thing separating you from these creatures is the panel. There is also a daily feeding show every 3.30pm.

Sub-Antarctic Ecosystems

Ever dreamt of seeing adorable tiny penguins up close? This section is home to rockhopper penguins (aka the ones from the 2007 animated film Surf’s Up) who like to hop around and even do belly flops. You can even get the chance to feed them on daily schedules between 11.15am and 3pm.

Temperate Section

This area in the new building is home to South American fur seals, some of which put on cool shows from a large glass tank. The seals’ feeding time session is at 2.30pm, and it is one many kids and kids-at-heart will surely enjoy. The section also features black-footed African penguins that you can admire as you walk through an eight-metre-long tunnel, allowing you to immerse in their habitat. Their feeding sessions are at 11am and 2.45pm daily.

Tropical Rainforest Section

Discover a diverse array of tropical fish like arowanas, pacu, knifefish, and temoleh. This area at Underwater World Langkawi also features various tropical and exotic birds, including Mandarin ducks, flamingos, black swans, and parakeets. And if those aren’t enough, visitors will also get to see snapping turtles, capybaras, and a massive green anaconda weighing 250kg.

River Ecosystem

In this section, you’ll find three interconnected tanks designed to resemble a flowing river. Its fresh waters are home to various fish from Southeast Asia, the Amazon, Africa, North America, and Australia. Expect exotic species like the bala shark, striped carp, tinfoil barb, albino patin, and giant gourami. There are also tanks specially designed for reptiles like the leopard gecko, Chinese water dragon, and Indonesian blue-tongued skink.

Preview Tank

Among the freshwater creatures on display here are the helicopter catfish, a massive carnivorous fish native to South and Southeast Asia that has an eel-like body. There are also freshwater stingrays, which are quite a bizarre sight to behold as they swim through the tank. But perhaps the most interesting is the arapaima — the largest freshwater fish in the world.

Hexagonal Tank

Invertebrate Section

For sea creatures on the more peculiar side, this is the place to be. Expect the likes of Japanese mitten lobster, snowflake moray eel, and green carpet anemone.

Coral Reef Section

Admire a lovely coral garden brimming with vibrant hues from both the coral reefs and its inhabitants. This delicate ecosystem is home to species like clownfish, wrasse, sea slugs, starfish, giant clam, and jellyfish.

Venomous & Poisonous Section

As the name of the section implies, you’ll find sea creatures here that look as majestic as they are deadly (if you aren’t careful). Learn more about species like the lionfish and pufferfish, and how their needle-sharp teeth and spiny fins actually double as their weapons for self-defence.
