Hong Kong Free Flights - A Ticket Giveaway for the Ages
In what is possibly the best news for folks with a serious case of Hong Kong wanderlust, the Hong Kong Tourism Board has announced that it is giving away half a million free flight tickets to attract tourists back to the Pearl of the Orient as part of its “Hello Hong Kong” campaign. Who needs cheap flights to Hong Kong anymore?
The Hong Kong free flights campaign is an ambitious one and is geared towards attracting 1.5 million visitors and restoring the city’s proud reputation as the “world’s freest economy.”
The campaign was officially launched on 2nd February 2023, and participants can win tickets starting from 1st March onwards.
If you’re all set and ready to plan your Disneyland itinerary or go cha chaan teng hopping, here’s all you need to know about Hong Kong’s free flights giveaway:
The three Hong Kong airlines – Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Express and Hong Kong Airlines, will each split the 500,000 tickets amongst themselves. And yes, the free flights will be distributed by them too.
Each airline will also decide the respective giveaway mechanisms for their share of the tickets. As for how you can win, there will be a variety of ways. There’ll be lucky draws, first dibs tickets, and buy one get one free promotion campaigns that include buying one plane ticket and getting another for free.
Further details will be provided by the airlines by 1st March 2023.
There’s no specific or official criteria yet per se.
But we have an indication of who can win the Hong Kong Tourism Board’s free tickets and good news if you’re in Asia, because roughly three-quarters of these flights will be giving to Asian visitors, especially countries in Southeast Asia.
So stand by folks. Get ready to start booking flights from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Phillipines. Residents from Northeastern Asian countries like China can win too
In terms of ticket releases, it will be in the following order below:
- Southeast Asia – March
- China – April
- Northeast Asia and the rest of the world – May
Good news for Hong Kong residents too. 160,000 tickets will be reserved and given away to citizens from July onwards.
These free air tickets will be given out over a period of six months, from 1st March onwards till September 2023.
Well, yes to a certain extent. These economy class tickets are free but winners will still have to fork out the cash for the requisite surcharges, fees, and taxes.
Drumroll please…the answer is yes! Tourists can receive a set of Hong Kong Goodies from 2 February 2023.
Each goodies set includes cash vouchers for attractions, shopping, and dining outlets, and includes perks like a free drink from over 100 bars, restaurants and hotels.
As for the Hong Kong goodies voucher, the cash value is HK$100 and is eligible for use at more than 140 select restaurants, shops, and attractions. Check out the full list of participating outlets here.
Finally, you’ll snag an exclusive memorabilia to take home (valued at over HK$100) when you visit a list of selected museums or attractions.
Anyone staying in Hong Kong for 90 days or less qualify for Hong Kong Goodies. The catch is that you can only redeem these goodies on a one-time basis using a non-Hong Kong phone number.
